In September every year we harvest our apples from our backyard tree. This year the apples were not as large or as plentiful as they usually are, I think that was because we had a much colder summer than usual. We still had more than enough and were able to make lots of stuff.
The day starts with Dad & Eliseo going up the ladder and picking the apples from the tree.
Next, Alexa and I peeled all the apples, today we were making applesauce. We have a nifty little apple peeling machine that cuts, cores and peels all in a few seconds per apple. Without it, we would be toast.
Making the applesauce in the big pot.
The finished product, canned fresh homemade applesauce that will last all winter. The apples are so sweet that we don't need to add any sugar. We made a total of 25 cups of applesauce, the next day we made apple butter... yummy! It took ALL day to make but I think it was worth it. We also made a few apple pies and some yummy apple cake.
This is how I keep Eliseo busy when I'm cooking in the kitchen.... FOOD. Notice he is now feeding himself with a spoon, not exactly the cleanest adventure but he likes it and now often doesn't want us to feed him... he wants to do it himself!
